{"id":3927,"date":"2022-03-15T02:06:20","date_gmt":"2022-03-15T02:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mygracepresby.org\/?post_type=sermons&#038;p=3927"},"modified":"2022-03-15T02:13:50","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T02:13:50","slug":"the-youth-in-the-light-of-christ","status":"publish","type":"sermons","link":"https:\/\/mygracepresby.org\/?sermons=the-youth-in-the-light-of-christ","title":{"rendered":"THE YOUTH IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation,\u00a0among whom you <strong><em>shine as lights<\/em><\/strong> in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.\u00a0\u2014Philippians 2:14-16<\/p>\n<p>There are three things I will talk about<\/p>\n<p>Youth<\/p>\n<p>Light<\/p>\n<p>Christ<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Youth <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A youth is a young person between the ages of childhood and adulthood.<\/p>\n<p>He or she is<\/p>\n<p>energetic ,<\/p>\n<p>with exuberance,<\/p>\n<p>Strong and always try to exhibit strength and power.<\/p>\n<p>A person who does not take light too serious<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Light<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>light<\/em>, electromagnetic radiation that can be detected by the human eye.<\/p>\n<p>Light is <strong>a type of energy that makes it possible for us to see the world around us<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What is the significance of light<\/p>\n<p>Makes things visible<\/p>\n<p>It help makes work easier and faster<\/p>\n<p>It brings joy<\/p>\n<p>It takes away fear.<\/p>\n<p>And I wonder why when there is light out everyone feels hot<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>What kind of car would Jesus drive? <\/strong>A Christler.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What did the classmate say when asked why they kept walking next to the same person at school?<\/strong> \u201cI was told I\u2019m supposed to walk by Faith!<\/li>\n<li>Our fourth grader celebrated his birthday on crutches, so he couldn\u2019t carry the cupcakes into school without help. I asked our sixth-grader, Noah, to help his brother carry them in. \u201cI could,\u201d he said, \u201cbut I\u2019d prefer not to.\u201d Spotting a teaching moment, my husband asked Noah, \u201cWhat would Jesus do?\u201d Noah answered, \u201cJesus would heal him so he could carry his own cupcakes.\u201d <em>\u2014Rachel Nichols<\/em><\/li>\n<li>In the foyer(<strong>a large entrance<\/strong>), of a church, a young boy was looking at a plaque with the names of men and women who had died in various wars.\u00a0 He asked the pastor, &#8220;Who are these people?&#8221;\u00a0 The pastor said, &#8220;Those are members from our church who died in the service.&#8221;\u00a0 The boy asked, &#8220;The first service or the second service?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Jesus<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The only son of God.<\/p>\n<p>the Gospel of John, Jesus is called \u201cthe true light, which gives light to everyone\u201d (John 1:9).<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the New Testament, the followers of Jesus are called to be lights in the darkness.<\/p>\n<p>CHARACTORISTICS OF A YOUTH IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>make no provision for the flesh- But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.( to <em>fulfil<\/em> the lusts <em>thereof<\/em>.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 .( Romans 13:14)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>the Greek word for <\/em><em>flesh (sarx) <\/em><em>refers to the sinful state of human beings,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201ccast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light\u201d (Romans 13:12).<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Admired by the people around him- Matthew 5:16<sup>\u00a0<\/sup>In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.<\/li>\n<li>He\/she becomes a yard stick<\/li>\n<li>He becomes a pace setter<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What makes light never to shine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When it is disconnected from the source-\u00a0 Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When there is no channel -You<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When its in a bad environment- Sin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So\u00a0how exactly\u00a0do\u00a0you\u00a0shine?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do not be conformed to this world \u2026\u00a0\u2014Romans 12:2a, ESV<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing a light\u201d sounds great, doesn\u2019t it? But it\u2019s also a little abstract.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>HOW EXACTLY DO YOU BECOME THIS BRILLIANT LIGHT TO PEOPLE AROUND YOU?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are 4 practical tips:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Be careful what you\u00a0<\/strong><b>say. The<\/b>\u00a0Bible calls the tongue \u201ca restless evil, full of deadly poison\u201d (James 3:8).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Maybe a parent once told you, \u201cIf you don\u2019t have anything nice to say, don\u2019t say anything at all.<\/li>\n<li>Words are powerful and can be used for good or bad.<\/li>\n<li>Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear\u201d (Ephesians 4:29).\u00a0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Consider your\u00a0<\/strong><b>entertainment. Where<\/b>\u00a0do you go for fun?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>What shows or movies do you watch?<\/li>\n<li>What kind of music do you listen to?<\/li>\n<li>you go to the same places, watch the same things or listen to the same music if Jesus were sitting next to you? Or would you be embarrassed?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Use social media wisely.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>People are watching what you post, whether they interact with your posts or not.<\/li>\n<li>Think about the things you\u2019ve posted recently\u2014articles, comments, photos and so on. Could they be seen as prideful?<\/li>\n<li>Self-centered? Rude? What\u2019s your motive?<\/li>\n<li>To put others down or make them jealous?<\/li>\n<li>.\u00a0Aim to make informed, respectful posts that represent the One you claim as Lord.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Think of others.\u00a0<\/strong>Consider other people\u2019s needs and help meet them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage instead of criticize.<\/li>\n<li>Be patient.<\/li>\n<li>Give others the benefit of the doubt.<\/li>\n<li>If you hear gossip, distance yourself from it or change the subject.<\/li>\n<li>When you encounter a difficult person, remember that they were made and are loved by God.<\/li>\n<li>Above all, \u201cTreat others the same way you want them to treat you\u201d (Luke
