CHRIST THE GOOD SHEPHERD (21ST APRIL, 2024)

CHRIST OUR GOOD SHEPHERD

The idea of a shepherd is seen in the old testament as the relationship between God and his people (Israel). Psalm 95:7

The idea also represents the duty of authority (traditional, religious, political). Ezekiel 34:1-10. This calls for responsibility and accountability from every leader.

The idea is used to describe a God who does not forsake his people. Psalm 27:9-11

The idea of a good shepherd is mainly used to describe Christ as the good shepherd who has a strong relationship with his sheep. John 10:11-14. the shepherd who gives his life for the sheep.

The idea is also used to describe Christ as the true leader who leads by example (sacrifice, selflessness).

Psalm 23 teaches us that a good shepherd;

  1. Provides for the flock (verse 1,2)
  2. Protects the flock from wild animals (3,4)
  3. Prevents bugs and insects from disturbing the sheep (verse 5).

This is what our good shepherd (CHRIST) does for us.
